Safemia App
An app designed to help women feel safer during nighttime walks or when navigating unfamiliar environments.
Challenge
I worked on this project as a UX/UI designer and product manager. I completely reworked the app’s first version into a new design, including branding, logo, colors, fonts, and the overall visual look. The app is now with the developer and will soon be available for download. As it’s an MVP, further work, testing, analysis, and adjustments will be done moving forward.
Problem
Women, especially aged 15–35, often feel unsafe when walking alone at night, especially after parties or events. This is a bigger problem during high school and university years because they go out more, rely on public transport, and don’t have access to cars.
Key issues include:
Unsafe Environments: Dark streets with no lights, underpasses with suspicious people, or crowded public transport where theft and harassment happen.
Lack of Support: Even in crowded places like buses, other people rarely step in to help during incidents like theft or harassment.
Constant Fear: Even if nothing serious happens, things like catcalling, being followed, or seeing unsafe people cause stress and anxiety.
This fear is a daily problem for many women, whether they live in small towns or big cities. They don’t have enough tools or support to feel safe in these situations.
Opportunity
The app has the potential to become a trusted tool that helps women feel safer in vulnerable situations, such as walking home alone at night. By focusing on features that directly address safety concerns, we can make a real difference in their daily lives.
